Challenge:
Control a switcher / matrix with your control system using RS232 as control channel.
Note: This articel is relevant for all our PureTool products with an RS232 connector and an open API. Please read the manual to see if your product can be controlled via RS232.
Setup:
Control System --> PT-PMS-82S (RS232 control)
We recommend to use our PTM-RS100 to connect your control system to the switcher. Assign the DIP-switches on your RS100 cable:
PIN 1,6,8 --> ON
other PINs --> OFF
By default the RS232 configuration is:
Baud rate: 9600 Data bit: 8 Stop bit: 1 Parity bit: none
Verify your RS232 configuration are the same on both ends.
Connect to the WebUI of the switcher and select the correct RS232 settings for your setup. The PMS-82S offers 3 different control modes:
HDBT Transmitter Pass-Through:
Establish RS232 pass-through communication between the switcher and the HDBaseT transmitter (e.g. PT-HDBT-200-TX). The RS232 port of the switcher can be used to transfer commands to control the third-party device which is connected to the HDBaseT transmitter.
HDBT Receiver Pass Through:
Establish RS232 pass-through communication between the switcher and HDBaseT receiver (e.g.PT-HDBT-200-RX). The RS232 port of the switcher can be used to transfer commands to control the third-party device which is connected to the HDBaseT receiver.
Local Control:
The RS232 port of the switcher is used to connect control device (e.g. PC) to control the switcher.
Now you are all set and you can control your switcher using your control system. Before connecting your actual control system, verify your setup is working controlling your switcher from your PC using Docklight. (Please find attached a sample Docklight file). Make sure you configure Docklight to the correct COM port before sending the commands.
Depending on the baud rate and the cable you use, the max. cable length for an RS232 signal can be up tp 15m (50 feet).
